Building has been part of my life for as long as I can remember…

After more than 20 years in this industry, the work still excites me. I am usually out on the job site at 3am on slab day, excited to watch the foundation of someone’s forever home take shape. Even as our team has grown, I stay involved in every project because I care about what we build and who we build it for.

One of my favorite parts of this work is helping families understand what the building process can look like, and watching their feeling of overwhelm turn into excitement.

Our Story

How a Career in Commercial Construction Became a Calling to Build Differently

Ian Sears grew up helping at job sites alongside his dad, developing an early love for the craft of building…

By 14 he started mowing lawns and grew a small lawn care venture into a successful landscaping business that he sold before finishing college. After graduation, he spent 13 years in commercial construction learning what a well-run project looks like at scale.

Founding Fig Tree Homes

In 2020 Ian founded Fig Tree Homes, bringing that same standard of structure, communication, and accountability to custom home building in North Texas.

The company has grown intentionally since, built around Ian’s conviction that quality and integrity are never worth trading for speed or volume.

The Meaning Behind the
Fig Tree Name

The name Fig Tree Homes was inspired by Proverbs 27:17-19, a verse about tending carefully to what you’re responsible for and trusting that what you pour into will produce fruit.

For our team, building a home has always been an act of stewardship: showing up, doing the work, and taking care of what has been entrusted to us. Fig Tree Homes is a daily reminder of our commitment to each family and our approach to each build.
