Custom Home Building Process TX
An Intentional Custom Home Build Where Every Decision Is Made Before We Break Ground
Most Builders Start Building Before the Hard Questions Have Been Answered
Most frustrations in custom home building are not simply surprises that happen during construction. They are the result of decisions that were never made before it started.
Budgets built on allowances, plans with engineering gaps, selections left open until mid-build. By the time issues surface, they are expensive to fix and hard to recover from. A structured pre-construction process eliminates them before they have a chance to become problems…
We Understand Why Clients Come Guarded, and We Built Our Process Because of It
Ian Sears spent 13 years in commercial construction before founding Fig Tree Homes in 2020. At that level, no project breaks ground without completed plans, confirmed budgets, and a fully coordinated team.
Ian built Fig Tree around that same standard, with a detailed pre-construction process that sets the foundation of our work.
“I am usually out on the jobsite at 3 am on slab day, excited to watch the foundation of someone’s forever home take shape.”
-Ian Sears, Founder

A Process Built to Protect You at Every Phase js-hero-timeline

Phase One
Consultation & Land Evaluation
We begin by getting to know you and your vision to ensure we’re the right fit. This phase includes early planning around budget, financing, home type, and overall feasibility, laying a strong foundation before design begins. Our goal in this phase is alignment, not assumptions.
-

Phase Two
Pre-Construction
Your home begins to take shape on paper. Our design team works closely with you to develop fully customized plans, refining every detail from layout and structure to materials, systems, and finishes. Selections are finalized alongside the design process so your budget reflects exactly what your home will cost before a construction contract is ever signed. This collaborative phase ensures nothing is left open when construction begins.
-

Phase Three
Permits, Inspections & Construction
Throughout construction, we maintain consistent site oversight and structured communication. Progress is monitored daily, and each trade partner operates within a clearly defined scope. We handle all permitting and required inspections before, during, and after construction. Your finances, daily logs, and photos are all visible in real time through BuilderTrend so you always know what happened on your job that day.
-

Phase Four
Walkthrough & Closing
Before you move in, we conduct multiple detailed walkthroughs, including blue-tape reviews and a final inspection to ensure every detail meets both our standards and the expectations established throughout the build.
Upon completion, we review warranties, hand over the keys, and welcome you home.

You are on your own land, surrounded by space and quiet, in a home built around how you actually live. Every room reflects a decision you made, not a compromise you settled for. This is what it feels like to stop imagining and start living on the property you always wanted.
